Likewise, the home of the brave lyrics reflect the heroic exploits of Americans to defend this country. We were made as an independent nation, giving us all of our rights as U.S. Kek doesn’t even really know how to speak English so Dave taught himself to speak the African language so that he could speak with Kek. In this realistic fiction novel by Katherine Applegate it is the dead of winter in Minnesota and Dave helps Kek get used to all this harsh weather. In the novel Home of the Brave by Katherine Applegate one of the main characters, Dave shows that he is protective and considerate because he really helps Kek (a boy who just moved from Africa to Minnesota because he needed to move in with his aunt and cousin because in Africa he had no one to live with at the time.) adapt to Minnesota’s environment.
